Keloids/ Scars

Scars are skins response to tissue injury and the healing process of the epidermis and dermis. Some scars heal smoothly and evenly, others develop a build-up of collagen that is raised, uneven or extends beyond the parameters of the original wound site. Keloids are excessively raised and scar formations most commonly occurring in people of African/African American, Asian, or Indian heritage.

What Causes Keloids/ Scars:

Scars are the body’s natural response to injury. As for keloids, there is no clear single reason why they form in certain people or situations and not in others. Genetics and ethnicity play a role.

Management Strategy:

The best results are achieved with a combination approach of medication (topical creams and/or intralesional injections), and light-based therapy.
