Presents as a chronic and recurring itchy, scaly red skin rash that can appear in one area or all over and possibly involve the joints (Arthritis).
What Causes Psoriasis:
An immune system reaction in which the skin replicates quickly. The exact cause of psoriasis is still unknown, though research has shown it to be immune-mediated often related to a genetic factor. Skin cell growth is much faster than normal leading to a faster replication leading to thick plaque.
There has been a surge of research in psoriasis therapy. Depending on the severity of the disease, treatments are tailored to specifically address the concerns and patients lifestyle. Medications (topical and oral) as well as light-based therapies provide the best treatment in conjunction with nutritional support.
