Hives

Definition:

Red, itchy, raised bumps that come and go, seemingly without warning.

What Causes Hives:

There are many causes. Acute onset is thought to occur from infections, allergy to medications or foods while chronic cases can be more difficult to diagnose.

Management Strategy:

Treatment involves identifying the underlying cause and eliminating it by prevention. Medications (oral and topical) and light-based therapies have shown to be effective.
